One Comment to “Envoy”

  1. Tim Brough says:

Although James wrote and recorded much of this album in early 1992, much of it stands true today. Songs like “The Covenant” could have been written about the events of the past three years, if we look at the integrity of our leaders to be sold to the highest bidder if we all look out on the latest media distraction.

“So we look the other way, if we pretend that we do not see that the flock has gone astray …. fed style not the content … just more money than justice.”

While the music is far from angry, there is no loss of urgency. A song like “Out Of Time” (written during the Rodney King riots) can be performed on a strong melody, but the message it conveys remains a powerful one. As with all great songwriters, Stanley admits the small margin between the political and the personal. The stunning a capella “Flowers For The Living” was a poignant reminder that love exists in the present tense, as a reminder that those who stand beside you require our attention every day. “The Envoy delivers its message by God, and is one of the many great albums from James Lee Stanley.
